Dear Nav,

When difficulty comes our way, who do you turn to?

My name is Shona* and I work with vulnerable families in the community.

I want to share with you an inspirational story about an eight-year-old girl, Katy* and her brave mum Melinda*.

When I first met Katy and Melinda, they had been sleeping in the car for months.

With Christmas fast approaching, it's devastating to think that many families won't have a safe home during a joyful and festive season.

Thanks to our compassionate supporters, Katy and Melinda no longer sleep in fear.

If you've already donated to help vulnerable families this Christmas, thank you for your generosity.

Melinda knew a car was not a suitable place to raise her young daughter, but it was still safer than staying at home. Melinda and her ex-partner had been fighting a lot, but when he threatened Katy, that was the final straw.

"Anywhere is better than here." – Melinda

Melinda packed the essentials but without family or friends nearby, she had no one to rely on. Melinda and Katy were forced to sleep in the car.

Did you know, over 40% (119,000) of people receiving support from specialist homelessness services also experienced domestic and family violence? Alarmingly, 90% of the adults supported were women.1

For mums like Melinda, the generosity of our supporters is like having a shoulder to lean on during difficult times. Thanks to our supporters, we've helped mums like Melinda, but there are many more vulnerable families that will face homelessness this Christmas. A special donation today can make a life-changing difference.

Your gift helps provide emergency accommodation, essential items and access to case management during a time of crisis. Will you help us reach even more families fleeing violence this Christmas?

Donate to help vulnerable families

Kind regards,
